Incorporated in 1966, Lacey is a young, progressive and growing community. The City encompasses 16.27 square-miles with a population of 39,250 in a rapidly-growing urban area of 200,000, which includes Washington’s State Capital, Olympia.
The City of Lacey, Washington, is a seeking an individual with a proven history and success in managing a combination emergency medical fire service to assume the position of Lacey Fire Chief. The position was initiated after the Lacey City Council determined that it can best serve its citizens with emergency medical and fire services through the development of an independent City operated fire department.
The Fire Chief will be the architect of this new department and will be responsible for strategic planning and structural design including its policies, procedures, and budget. Lacey’s Emergency Medical and Fire Services Department is scheduled to begin operations in January 2011.
Reporting directly to the City Manager, the Fire Chief will plan, direct, and manage the facilities, operations, programs and activities of Lacey’s Emergency Medical and Fire Services Department. The incumbent is responsible for mutual aid agreements, an active participate in the City Manager’s Executive Team, and represent the City at community affairs and events. |

| Requirements |
| Candidates must possess ten (10) years of experience in a full-time paid fire department with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in fire operations, administration, and supervision at a command level. A combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is required; Bachelor’s degree in Business or Public Administration is preferred. The Chief must be able to successfully pass a criminal, civil, and education background check and perform all duties in accordance with the City of Lacey’s laws and policies.Background and or credentials in Emergency Management and the National Incident Management System (NIMS) are required as well as the ability to obtain all certifications necessary for operating within the State of Washington. |
